B'nai Mitzvah The temple is proud to be able to prepare congregants for becoming bar or bat mitzvah. While the majority are young adults reaching the age of 13, there are also adult bar or bat mitzvahs as well as people celebrating the anniversary of their first bar or bat mitzvah. The ceremony is public recognition that a boy or girl has become a responsible adult member of the Jewish community. The bar or bat mitzvah is given the opportunity to demonstrate that he or she has acquired the skills to fulfill the obligations of a Jewish adult. The ceremony is part of a regular service of the congregation. The bar or bat mitzvah is an event for the Beth El congregation as well as the family. The entire congregation looks forward to sharing the joy as our children become young adults. Beth El encourages celebrations following services to be consistent with the occasion and in keeping with Shabbat observance. |
