January 29 Yoo Hoo Mrs. Goldberg Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg is the funny and surprising story of radio & television pioneer Gertrude Berg. Berg was creator, star and writer of the hit sitcom The Goldbergs, a popular radio show for 17 years and television’s first character driven domestic sitcom in 1949. Berg’s blend of comedy and social commentary—with Jewish characters at the center—endeared audiences and made her an American cultural icon. February 5 Joseph: King of Dreams FAMILY PRESENTATION Mid Winter Jewish Film Series presents a screening for families, great for all age children. This is the animated story of Joseph created by DreamWorks. Starring Ben Affleck, Mark Hammill, Maureen McGovern. 70 minutes. All welcome.
February 26 The Life & Times of Hank Greenberg As Hitler invaded Europe, a young Jewish baseball player challenged Babe Ruth’s homerun record. This is the story of how he became an American hero. Detroit Tiger Hammerin’ Hank was an extraordinary baseball player who transcended religious prejudice to become an American icon.
March 11 I’m Not Filipina Krizel is a six year old girl of Filipino origin who was born in Israel and who is blind. Janette is a Filipino worker who has adopted her. Together they try to bridge the gaps of language and mentality in a country which one of them regards as her homeland and where the other still feels like a stranger. This 2010 film by Anat Tel is about the fate that binds them. In Hebrew, English, Filipino with English subtitles.
